Texas Twelve Scout League: Game Reports and Notes (July 20-23)

The Texas Twelve Baseball Scout League, powered by Five Tool, concluded this past week. The league consistently delivered standout performances, highlight moments and helped put some new names on the map for college recruiters. Before we close the book on our time covering the league in Katy, our Five Tool Scouting Intern Colten Sanchez filed his game reports from last week’s action:

Thursday, July 20th 

2024 Texas Twelve Red Sox vs. 2024 Texas Twelve Black 
Carson Luna from St. John’s High School impressive played a huge role in his team’s victory. The UT commit performed very well offensively with a 3-for-4 performance that included two hard-hit singles. Luna has incredible strength and quick bat speed, leading to balls leaving the bat at 90+ MPH exit velocity regularly. He makes it look easy against arms throwing over 90 MPH. Luna also showed some solid speed, extending hits and taking bags when possible. He takes good leads with a nice secondary. Luna handled the routine plays at shortstop and showed arm strength.

Collin Toedter (Grand Oaks High School) flashed potential while on the bump for 2024 Texas Twelve Red Sox. Toedter is an absolute unit, coming in a 6-8 and weighing 235 pounds. His long arms allow him to reach for the sky, coming over-the-top with his 7-3 release height. All his pitches seemed to work in unison. He has a fastball that sits at 86-89 MPH, a slider at 77-79 MPH and a changeup at 77-78 MPH. Toedter fills up the zone consistently and has solid command all around. His sharp slider looked great, leading to a few strikeouts. 

2024 Texas Twelve Red Sox vs. 2024 South Texas Twelve Navy 
Peyton Reynolds was perfect through 4.1 innings during his time on the mound. Reynolds is a 6-0 right-hander out of Bellville High School. His fastball sat at 84-86 MPH while his curveball sat at 72-74 MPH. Reynolds has good command of all his pitches; he pounds the zone and lets his defense do the work for him. He induces lots of weak contact due to his movement. Reynolds found a grove early on and never looked back. He finished with 5.0 innings pitched, four strikeouts and no walks. 


Offensively, Caden Miller led the charge for 2024 Texas Twelve Red Sox. Miller is a 6-2 left-handed hitter out of Madisonville High School. Miller hit an absolute tank into the trees over the right-field wall. Miller showed his quick, strong hands.

2024 Texas Twelve Black vs. 2024 South Texas Twelve Navy 
Adin Ruiz showed promise on the mound for 2024 Texas Twelve Black. Ruiz is a 5-10 pitcher out of Santa Gertrudis Academy High School. Ruiz got rattled early then found a groove and pitched well. His curveball has good movement and had hitters reaching. His command is decent overall but excelled with the fastball. He has a fast tempo and produces weak ground balls. He struck out three in 4.0 innings of work.

A.J. Atkinson led the way for their offense. Atkinson is a left-handed hitting outfielder from Katy High School. Atkinson is able to generate some pop and had great zone knowledge and created long at-bats. He hit a 2-run bomb over the right field wall early on then proceeded to hit a triple in the last innings. Atkinson is pretty fast and runs the bases the right way. 

2024 Texas Twelve Gold vs. 2024 Texas Twelve Silver 
Ryan Ratajczak sparked the only offense of the game for 2024 Texas Twelve Gold. Ratajczak is a right-handed hitter from Tompkins High School and is an on-base machine. He finds gaps and hits the ball hard almost every time. He contains solid power and decent speed. Ratajczak hit a home run over the left field wall with ease. 

2024 Texas Twelve Silver vs. 2024 Texas Twelve Grey 
Sam Rickman displayed every part of his game against 2024 Texas Twelve Grey. Rickman is a 6-2 pitcher with a high release point out of Grand Oaks High School. Rickman has a fastball at 81-83 MPH, topping out at 84 MPH, and a curveball at 69-70 MPH. His speed differential was his biggest weapon and frustrated hitters. His fastball had some carry and played above its radar reading Rickman has pounded the strike zone well. He established himself as a two-way player hitting a two-RBI triple in the gap. Rickman moves well for his size and showed solid potential. 

Friday, July 21st 

2024 Texas Twelve Silver vs. 2024 Texas Twelve Red Sox 
Ryan Brautigam performed very well in an upset against 2024 Texas Twelve Red Sox. Brautigam is a big, physical right-handed pitcher from The Woodlands High School. Brautigam has a fastball ranging from 81-84 MPH and a splitter at 70-73 MPH. His splitter is filthy spin that was sometimes lower than 850 RPM. It’s his biggest weapon and he uses it a good amount. His splitter falls off and induced lots of weak contact. Brautigam has great control and fills up the zone, not allowing a single walk in his 6.0 innings of work.

2024 South Texas Twelve Navy vs. 2024 Texas Twelve Silver 
Aidan Moody showed potential while on the bump. Moody is a 6-0 right-handed pitcher from Sinton High School. His pitch mix is solid as he contains a fastball at 85-88 MPH, a slider at 70-71 MPH, and a curveball at 68-69 MPH. His slider is his best pitch; it’s strong and sometimes has as much as 16 inches of horizontal movement. His curveball also worked nicely giving hitters a different look. Moody leverages his leg strength well, and he’s confident on the mound. After some initial struggles, he showed impressive mental toughness. Moody went 5.1 innings, striking out five and producing a lot of grounders. As he improves his command, his performance will benefit. 


2024 Texas Twelve Red Sox vs. 2024 Texas Twelve Gold 
Logan Witt (Stephen F Austin High School) performed well while on the mound for 2024 Texas Twelve Gold. Witt is tall and lanky, coming in at 6-4 with a 6-2 release height. Witt was pumping his fastball 81-83 MPH and showed a solid curve at 69-70 MPH. With his long limbs, hitters struggled to pick up his pitches. He filled the zone routinely and rarely got himself in trouble. His fastball command was excellent, and he struck out three looking. Witt was able to take advantage of the strike zone thanks to his command. 

On the other side, Mathew Espinoza from Smithson Valley High School also performed well. Espinoza is a unit with a real physical build, weighing 205 pounds at 6-2. He has a fastball at 82-86 MPH and a slider at 71-73 MPH. His slider is short-cutting and subtle, but still efficient. Hitters struggled to catch up to his fastball. Espinosa has a fast tempo and likes to attack. He consistently throws first-pitch strikes and does not seem to miss the zone often. Espinoza has great potential but needs to throw his offspeed a bit more. 

2024 Texas Twelve Gold vs. 2024 Texas Twelve Black 
Anthony Ramirez out of Deer Park High School gave hitters a tough time against 2024 Texas Twelve Black. He had a fastball at 87-90 MPH, a slider at 74-76 MPH, and a changeup at 78-79 MPH. In particular, his slider performed well. It had 18 inches of horizontal run and a spin rate around 2500 RPM. Ramirez has some present strength and dominates hitters with his fastball. Ramirez controls his fastball well most of the time, and his slider could really take off with more consistent command. He has huge potential to be great, especially as his reps and full arsenal improve.

2024 Texas Twelve Black vs. 2024 Texas Twelve Grey 
Caleb Barry-Smith had an unreal day while pitching for 2024 Texas Twelve Black. Barry-Smith is a 5-10 righty from The Woodlands High School with some solid muscle mass. He has a big fastball, coming in at 84-87 MPH. It’s explosive and he throws it a ton. He pairs it with a sharp slider at 72-74 MPH. His slider compliments the fastball nicely, but he does lose feel for it at times. Barry-Smith has a huge leg kick and uses it well. Barry-Smith pitched 3.0 innings of work and struck out five with a lot of whiffs.

Saturday, July 22nd 

2026 Texas Twelve Red Sox vs. 2026 Texas Twelve Black 
Jordan Garza is the definition of a ground-ball pitcher. However, he also has the stuff to strike guys out. Garza is a 5-11 right-handed pitcher from W.B Ray High School. He has a pretty good fastball at 84-86 MPH. It comes out of the hand well and created often creates foul balls and whiffs. He also uses a big-breaking slider at 72-74 MPH. The speed differential helped fool hitters. Garza has a great tempo and a super quick delivery, helping manage the running game.

Daniel O’Briant (Tomball High School) showed off all of his weapons while behind the dish. O’Briant called a solid game, mixing up pitches and locations consistently. He has a cannon of an arm and uses it as much as he can. His quick hands and smooth transition leads to a pop time of around 2.2 seconds. His IQ is solid, knowing when to backpick and making it subtle. He blocks well and takes leadership of the field. O’Briant gunned down three runners at second and backpicked one at first. 

2026 Texas Twelve Red Sox vs. 2026 Texas Twelve Gold 
Braddock Raven from Victoria East High School dealt today for 2026 Texas Twelve Red Sox. Raven has a nasty three-pitch mix of fastball (83-85 MPH), a curveball (67-70 MPH), and a changeup (76-77 MPH). His curveball was nasty with a lot of movement and buckled some hitters. He has really advanced feel for spin and was often around 2700 RPM with his breaker. He has good command on both the fastball and the slider. Raven’s stuff racked up a lot of whiffs. He works quickly and possesses great confidence on the mound. Raven went 5.0 innings striking out four. 

On the other side Jud Dowell from Lamar High School led the offense. The Texas A&M commit slammed a homer over the fence to spark a rally. Dowell is a big dude with raw power. He easily cleared the wall by about 20 feet, which showed his advanced strength and bat speed. 

Sunday, July 23rd 

2026 Texas Twelve Black vs. 2026 Texas Twelve Gold 
Wyatt Clewett from Montgomery High School was the star for 2026 Texas Twelve Black. Clewett is a right-handed pitcher and left-handed hitter with a tall, lanky build. He has a fastball at 81-83 MPH, a changeup at 73-74 MPH, and a slider at 67-69 MPH. His fastball is pretty good and has a little run to it. His slider is short, but tends to get a good amount of chases. Clewett does a good job getting first-pitch strikes and pounding the zone. He’s also a good athlete. He has a solid bat with some hard-hits balls and decent speed. Clewett also made some great defensive plays while on the mound, showing his athleticism by fielding his position well.

2026 Texas Twelve Red Sox vs. 2026 South Texas Twelve Navy 
Jayden Stewart (Katy High School) showed solid potential while on the bump. He pumps an 80-83 MPH fastball paired with a 69-70 MPH slider. His slider is efficient, and he throws it well and positions it right. Stewart relies on his accuracy in order to get outs. He commands his fastball with ease. Stewart relies on his defense and developing more of a swing and miss pitch well help.

On the other side, Drayton Mitchell got the start for 2026 South Texas Twelve Navy. Mitchell is a lefty from Calallen High School, who topped out at 79 MPH on his fastball and got down to 64 MPH on his curveball. Mitchell has tons of natural movement on his fastball, running away on right-handed hitters. His curveball is a 12-6 and has solid vertical movement. Mitchell has a fantastic pickoff movement and really pushes the boundaries. He’s also super athletic, making lots of plays on the mound and getting to bunts with ease. Mitchell established himself as a two-way player as well, taking charge of the offense with a two-RBI triple. Mitchell scorched one down the left field line and showed some opposite-field impact.

2026 Texas Twelve Red Sox vs. 2026 South Texas Twelve Navy 
Owen Horrell was really effective while on the bump for 2026 Texas Twelve Red Sox. Horrell is a right-handed pitcher from A&M Consolidated High School with a strong, compact frame. He has a fastball that ranges from 82-84 MPH and tops out at 86 MPH. His slider sits at 69-71 MPH and moves well. Horrell is a big pitch-to-contact guy and gets lots of weak grounders. Horell has a solid baseball IQ of knowing where to go with the ball and what the next play is.

2026 Texas Twelve Black vs. 2026 Texas Twelve Gold 
Bryce Krenek from Taylor High School pitched efficiently and effectively while on the mound for 2026 Texas Twelve Black. Krenek is a southpaw who throws almost completely sidearm with a physical build. His fastball touches 82-84 MPH regularly but tops out at 85 MPH. His fastball was great today. He had good command of it and painted corners. He also has the lefty run on the ball to miss barrels. He pairs his fastball with a slider at 72-74 MPH. His slider is short but works well due to his arm slot. Krenek has solid mechanics and contains confidence and good body language while pitching.
