Dudes of the Weekend: Week 8

Hitters

Hutch Russell (The Show 405 Baseball 2024)

The Show 405 Baseball 2024’s Hutch Russell went on a tear at this plate this weekend in OKC. The uncommitted 2024 from Carl Albert (OK) tallied double-digits in the hit column with nearly half of them being for extra bases. The sweet-swinging lefty utilizes a high leg kick and engages his lower half well to get the most out of his smaller frame and spray line drives from pole to pole. He is a solid MIF prospect who has the potential to be a top of the lineup bat in college.

Blake Simpson (Mississauga Tigers Byron)

Mississauga Tigers Byron’s Blake Simpson was on fire this past weekend at the Five Tool Oklahoma OKC Cup. The uncommitted 2022 from Pickering (CAN) put on quite the show as he racked up three doubles and showcased his ability to drive the ball the other way. The sweet-swinging lefty is an extremely athletic prospect that impressed with a mature approach at the dish. Big things to come from this dude in the making.

Myles Walton (West Coast Kings 2023)

West Coast Kings 2023’s Myles Walton was a terror to face at the plate this weekend. The uncommitted 2023 from Clayton Valley Charter (CA) crushed baseballs both inside and out of the yard on his way to being responsible for 18 runs on the tournament. The right-handed hitter has good pre-swing rhythm featuring a high leg kick and has a knack for dropping the head on inside pitches with his quick hands. This is a kid that still has plenty of room to fill out and scouts need to be on watch for him in the next couple years.

Aiden Romero (Alpha Fuego 2024)

Alpha Fuego 2024’s Aiden Romero looked like he could plate runners in his sleep with the way he brought them home time and time again this weekend. The uncommitted 2024 from Clayton Valley (CA) was tearing the cover off of baseballs and filling up the gaps with line drives all tournament on his way to having the most RBI in the tournament field. The RHH has a very clean swing plane that produces repeatable hard contact and does a great job of extending through contact on all of his cuts. He has prototypical size for a third baseman and will be an absolute beast with a few more years of development.

Stat Line: 9-13, 3 2B, HR, 13 RBI, 7R, BB

Kevwe Ojo (West Coast Kings 2023)

West Coast Kings 2023’s Kevwe Ojo kept his eyes on the prize this weekend in Sacramento. The uncommitted 2023 from College Park (CA) produced plenty of power with effortless hacks en route to a whale of a weekend at the plate. The right-handed hitter flashed plus power especially to the pull side along with plus speed on the base paths and in the field. The center fielder also made what might have been the catch of the weekend with an insane diving grab going directly backwards. He is a great athlete who can impact the game in any aspect and college programs need to take notice immediately.

Adrian Garcia (Alpha Power 2024)

Alpha Power 2024’s Adrian Garcia was an OPS machine this weekend in Sacramento with more than half of his knocks being of the extra-base variety. The uncommitted 2024 from Central Catholic (CA) looked like a man among boys with the way he commanded at bats and destroyed baseballs all over the field. The RHH has very strong hands and utilizes controlled violence with his hacks to punish baseballs at a high exit velocity. He is a surefire plus bat that can contribute to a college program in the near future.

Stat Line: 9-14, 3 2B, 3B, HR, 7 RBI, 5R, 2 BB

Ryan Lee (Alpha Power 2022)

Alpha Power 2022’s Ryan Lee put the “show” in Sacramento Show this weekend in Northern California. The uncommitted 2022 from St. Francis (CA) was taking hacks reminiscent of Clint Frazier with a very compact yet ferocious two-handed swing from a more athletic stance. The right-handed hitter proved he can get to balls anywhere in the zone with his quick cuts to produce loud contact at a nice launch angle. He has a very athletic build and certainly has the potential to be a rare five-tool catcher and an overall valuable commodity at the next level.

Paxton Terveen (Alamo Drillers 2023)

Alamo Drillers 2023’s Paxton Terveen sprayed the ball all over the yard and was locked in at the plate in the Five Tool Texas 15U/16U Championships. The uncommitted 2023 from Stratford (TX) picked up five extra base hits in only 10 at bats. The LHH saw the ball well and worked to all parts of the field. Terveen has a short sweet swing and can generate pop due to an impressive frame. This is certainly a dude to keep an eye on in the coming summers.

Stat Line: 8-10, 4 2B, 3B, HR, 7 RBI, 5R, 2 BB, 2 SB

Tyler Akers (Cooperstown Cobras 16U Navy Kleckner)

Cooperstown Cobras 16U Navy Kleckner’s Tyler Akers did a little bit of everything in the Five Tool Texas Summer Classic Satellite Series. The uncommitted 2023 from Azle (TX) scored a ridiculous 13 runs as he helped propel his squad to a Championship victory this past weekend. The switch hitter racked up three triples and five stolen bases as he really showcased some blazing speed. Special weekend from this dude in the making.

Stat Line: 11-17, 2B, 3 3B, HR, 9 RBI, 13R, 6 BB, 5 SB

Cole Leclair (Mississauga Tigers Travers)

Mississauga Tigers Travers’ Cole Leclair was an absolute machine at the Five Tool Oklahoma OKC Cup this past weekend. The uncommitted 2023 from Upper Canada College (CAN) put together one of the most impressive single day performances of the summer as he tallied six hits with five of them going for extra-bases. The LHH was locked in at the plate and showed he can be a prototypical lead off guy as he scored 14 runs and was always looking to take an extra base. This dude is a toolsy player that has a bright future.

Stat Line: 8-20, 2 2B, 4 3B, 5 RBI, 14R, 3 BB, 4 SB

Andrew Schultz (USA Prime Stars 16U Abbott)

USA Prime Stars 16U Abbott’s Andrew Schultz was a force at the plate this weekend in the Five Tool Texas Summer Showdown Satellite Series. The uncommitted 2023 from Coppell (TX) impressed with some serious pop as he belted two home runs and proved to be a problem for opposing pitchers with his 12 RBI. The LHH put together quite the game on Sunday afternoon as he racked up half his RBI for the weekend and totaled five hits in a 29-4 win over Batters Box Kuecker. Overall, great weekend from an up and coming prospect.

Stat Line: 11-19, 4 2B, 2 HR, 12 RBI, 8R, 2 BB, SB

Holden Jatzlau (Batter’s Box Majewski)

Batter’s Box Majewski’s Holden Jatzlau was impressive in the box at the Five Tool Texas Summer Showdown Satellite Series. The uncommitted 2022 from Giddings (TX) showcased some extreme pop as he blasted a staggering three home runs over the course of the weekend. The LHH stands tall at 6-3 and has room to continue adding more power as he transitions into his senior year this spring. Jatzlau is an intriguing prospect to keep tabs on, especially if his power numbers continue to hold up.

Ian Guanzon (Alpha Power 2022)

Alpha Power 2022’s Ian Guanzon kept the opposition’s bats quiet in two outings this weekend at the Sacramento Show. The uncommitted 2022 from Pleasant Valley (CA) showed off a nice heater-curveball mix, touching 87 MPH with the fastball. The RHP has a very clean and simple delivery with a ¾ arm slot that gives his fastball plenty of run and curveball sharp bite. He is a prospect that knows how to miss bats and should be on colleges’ radar going into his final season at the high school level.

Jesse Taylor Drake (MAC Elite 2022)

MAC Elite 2022’s Jesse Taylor Drake was a workhorse for his squad this weekend, picking up a win in both of his appearances on the bump. The uncommitted 2022 from Los Alamos (NM) proved he could get outs via the fastball or curveball on his way to only allowing a single hit in nearly eight innings of work. The RHP attacks batters from a ¾ arm slot with a loose motion and he can manipulate the curveball to get multiples shapes. He looks to be a solid pitching prospect that can tap into his size and gain even more velo in the coming years.

Landon Flusche (BBA Titans 16U Ridenour)

BBA Titans 16U Ridenour’s Landon Flusche flushed away batters with ease in his outing at the OKC Cup this weekend. The uncommitted 2023 from Broken Arrow (OK) went the distance while tallying ten punch outs and only allowing two hits in seven innings of work. The RHP hides the ball well behind his 6-3 frame that gives him good downhill action on the heater with deceptive velocity and sharp 12-6 action on the breaking ball. This kid knows how to attack hitters early in the count and looks like a future college hurler.

James Markham (Mississauga Tigers Byron)

Mississauga Tigers Byron’s James Markham dazzled in his outing this weekend at the OKC Cup. The uncommitted 2022 from Our Lady of Mount Carmel (CAN) was about as dialed in as you can be and very deliberate with his approach on the mound. The RHP slings from a low ¾ arm slot and does a good job of locating both pitches at any location in the zone. The international prospect needs to be on the radar of domestic scouts as he goes into his final season of high school ball.

Braydon Risley (Cooperstown Cobras 16U Navy Kleckner)

Cooperstown Cobras 16U Navy’s Braydon Risley absolutely dominated the competition this weekend in the Satellite Series. The uncommitted 2023 from Eaton (TX) did a great job of keeping runners off the bases and in the dugout with 13 strikeouts to three hits and only gave out one free pass. The LHP has a very clean and repeatable delivery with effortless control easily overmatches batters and makes them look lost in the box. He can be a nice piece in a college staff and needs to be watched as he develops further in the next two years.

Mason Lampe (Batter’s Box Majewski)

Batter’s Box Majewski’s Mason Lampe was electric at the Five Tool Texas Summer Classic Satellite Series. The uncommitted 2022 from Brenham (TX) has now secured his second Dudes of the Weekend nominee and put together a special performance on the hill. The RHP allowed only one hit in six innings of work and racked up 10 strikeouts. This dude has definitely shown the ability to go deep into ball games and is a prospect that a college coach can rely on to throw strikes and attack hitters. Get on him now!

Aeden Barron (TCR Bobcats)

TCR Bobcats’ Aeden Barron turned out an absolutely dominant outing on the mound at the Five Tool Texas Summer Classic Satellite Series. The uncommitted 2024 from Byron Nelson (TX) did not allow an earned run in a stellar complete game performance on Thursday evening. The RHP featured swing and miss stuff as he cruised through the order on his way to 13 strikeouts. Barron is set to begin his sophomore year this upcoming spring and has plenty of room to continue to add velocity and become an even more formidable presence on the hill.

Caleb Hoover (Dallas Tigers Bergman)

Dallas Tigers Bergman’s Caleb Hoover has impressed all summer long and continued to do so in the Five Tool Texas Summer Classic Satellite Series this past weekend. The uncommitted 2024 from Rockwall Heath (TX) stymied hitters in a strong outing Sunday afternoon. The RHP was able to keep hitters off balance and really commanded the zone well. Bergman has plenty of room to continue to build upon what has been an impressive summer campaign thus far. Keep your eye out for this one in the coming years.

Orlando Balderas (Scorpions Team Easton 15U Black)

Scorpions Team Easton 15U Black’s Orlando Balderas had an absolutely spectacular outing on Friday night at the Five Tool Texas 15U/16U Championships. The uncommitted 2024 from College Park (TX) tossed five innings and recorded EVERY out via the strikeout. The RHP was up to 84 MPH with his fastball and snapped off some nasty curveballs to keep hitters off balance. Obviously, Balderas showcased his strikeout stuff, but he also was able to really dominate hitters with his exceptional control. This dude burst onto the scene this weekend and is a name to remember as he grows and matures on the mound.
