Dudes of the Weekend: Week 6

Hitters

Nuu Contrades (808 Baseball Academy/TB SoCal)

808 Baseball Academy/TB SoCa’s Nuu Contrades had a spectacular weekend all around at the Five Tool California SoCal Qualifier. The 2022 Cal State Northridge commit from St. Louis (HI) raked all weekend long and made loud contact in every at bat. The RHH is an extremely toolsy player and showcased thee ability to hit to all fields. This dude is a special, special player that has shined in Five Tool events in the past. Contrades just has a certain energy around him that lifts the level of play in his teammates.

Stat Line: 8-14, 3 2B, 4 RBI, 4R, 2 HBP, SB

Jaxson Jester (North Texas Longhorns 2024)

North Texas Longhorns 2024’s Jaxson Jester put on a show at the DFW College Championships this weekend. The uncommitted 2024 from Pottsboro (TX) had a very mature approach at the plate, allowing him to rocket to the top of the offensive leaderboards in the event. The lefty has a very nice and relaxed rhythm which gives him the ability to make repeatable pole-to-pole contact. This is a prospect scouts need to be on the lookout for in the coming years.

Salvador Rocha (ABA 2023 Meng)

ABA 2023 Meng’s Salvador Rocha was a potent force with the bat out in the desert this weekend. The uncommitted 2023 from Pebble Hills (TX) as a very good MIF prospect with his plus offensive profile. The right-handed hitter has a very direct barrel-to-ball swing which produces surprising exit velocity given his 5’10” 155 LB frame. He certainly has the potential to become a premium prospect in the coming years.

Stat Line: 8-14, 2 2B, HR, 7 RBI, 8R, 2 SB

Gene Trujillo (ABA 2023 Meng)

ABA 2023 Meng’s Gene Trujilo had a great weekend at the dish in the Five Tool New Mexico Duke City Championships. The uncommitted 2023 from St. Pius X (NM) hit a whopping .643 with five extra-base hits and was composed in the box each AB. The sweet-swinging lefty stands tall in the box at 6-5 and fits the profile of a stereotypical clean-up hitter. Big things to come for this dude in the making.

Stat Line: 9-14, 2 2B, 3B, HR, 8 RBI, 9R, 4 BB, SB

Finn O’Connor (Colorado Rockies Black Scout)

Colorado Rockies Black Scout’s Finn O’Connor was on an XBH tear at the plate this weekend in Colorado. The uncommitted 2022 from Regis Jesuit (CO) is a physical presence in the box that produces loud contact to all fields. He has an aggressive approach at the plate but looks very relaxed and fluid in his attack. The right-handed hitter does a great job of engaging his hips and lower half with a pretty launch angle on each hack. The rising senior in high school should be getting plenty of looks in the coming season.

Event: Five Tool Colorado Rocky Mountain Wood Bat Championships

Stat Line: 7-20, 3 2B, 2 3B, 7 RBI, 5R

Elijah Melendez (Colorado Rockies Silver Scout Team)

Colorado Rockies Silver Scout Team’s Elijah Melendez set himself apart from the pack at the Rocky Mountain Wood Bat Championships this weekend. The uncommitted 2025 from Thompson Valley (CO) showcased the ability to hit for both an average and power with a propensity for plating runners. The right-handed hitter starts high with his hands but still has a very level barrel path through the zone to hit balls with authority. He is a young prospect who certainly can develop into a solid prospect.

Stat Line: 9-19, 3 2B, 3B, HR, 11 RBI, 8R, BB, 2 SB

Mac Rose (UBC 16U Tompkins)

UBC 16U Tompkins’ Mac Rose has put together big time performances week in and week out this summer. The uncommitted 2o23 from Rockwall (TX) has showcased some impressive power in Five Tool events and continued to do so as he racked up five extra-base hits in 12 at bats. The sweet-swinging lefty exhibited great bat speed and has room to add even more pop in the offseason. This is a can’t miss prospect that should start to pop up on college coaches’ radars.

Blane Zeplin (BVR 17U Maroon)

BVR 17U Maroon’s Blane Zeplin put together a stellar weekend at the dish at the Five Tool Texas Houston College Championships. The uncommitted 2022 from Victoria West (TX) impressed with a great approach at thee dish as he racked up four extra-base hits and hit a staggering .583. The RHH has a powerful bat and really engages his lower half to provide pop. Zeplin is a stereotypical middle of the order dude that can really make a difference for a team. Keep an eye on this one over the back half of the summer showcase circuit.

Stat Line: 7-12, 3 2B, 3B, 8 RBI, 3R

Daniel Flagg (Dallas Patriots 17U Markee)

Dallas Patriots 17U Markee’s Daniel Flagg was a hitting machine and hit the ball to all fields during the Five Tool Texas Summer Showdown Satellite Series. The uncommitted 2022 from Pilot Point (TX) racked up nine hits over the weekend and exhibited a mature approach in the box. The RHH showcased the ability to hit for not only average but also power as he notched three extra-base hits and really showed off the wheels on two triples. Flagg is an intriguing prospect that looks to continue making noise in his senior season this spring.

Pitchers

Nick Maleri (Slammers White)

Slammers White’s Nick Maleri had just about as clean and dominant of an outing as you can have this weekend in the mountains. The uncommitted 2022 from Mountain Vista (CO) wasted no time getting through a lineup with his composed and deliberate mindset on the bump. The 6’3” lefty utilizes his big frame to hide the ball until the last second to deceive batters and miss barrels at any location in the zone. He is a nice arm and high academic kid that looks primed to pitch at the next level.

Connor Murray (Slammers Diz)

Slammers Diz’s Connor Murray coasted his way through a very efficient outing this weekend. The 2021 Adams State signee from Legacy (CO) has a clean delivery with a deceiving release point that starts at righties and far away from lefties to create a tough angle for hitters to pick up. The RHP isn’t the biggest in stature but has proven he can still attack batters and get outs with ease on the hill. He will be an intriguing player to watch at the next level.

Taven Hathaway (808 Baseball Academy)

808 Baseball Academy’s Taven Hathaway was dominant on his way to a no-hitter this weekend, but quick to give credit to his catcher and defense in the amazing all-around performance. The uncommitted 2022 from Moanalua (HI) uses his size to create easy velocity and can certainly tap into more in the future. He’s not afraid to pitch to contact and let his defense work behind him. He looks to be a great teammate college coaches will want on their team in the future.

Eduardo Soto (BBA Desert Sox

BBA Desert Sox’s Eduardo Soto got the job done in his outing at the Duke City Championships this weekend. The uncommitted 2022 from Pebble Hills (TX) is crafty on the bump and works an advanced pitch mix to keep batters guessing. The LHP is smaller in stature, but has a knack for easily placing a fastball, changeup and multiple breaking balls at any location to miss barrels and produce soft contact. He is a good pitching prospect to be on the lookout for.

Jonathan Alvarado (USA Prime Parra)

USA Prime Parra’s Jonathan Alvarado commanded the field in a dazzling outing this weekend. The uncommitted 2022 from Duncanville (TX) easily dominated with a very loose delivery and relaxed composure deep into the appearance. The RHP misses bats with a fastball-curveball-changeup pitch mix and can be effective with any of those three options. He is a solid arm that can be valuable to a program at the next level.

James Ellwanger (Texas Twelve Maroon 2023)

Texas Twelve Maroon 2023’s James Ellwanger put on a show in the Five Tool Texas Houston College Championships over the holiday weekend. The uncommitted 2023 from Magnolia West (TX) showcased a power fastball and hammer curveball to absolutely dominate hitters. The RHP gets downhill, utilizes his lower half to provide velocity, and is not afraid to come after hitters. Ellwanger has big time strikeout stuff and is a can’t miss prospect. Get on this dude now.

Logan Stark (Houston Heat 2023 Bay)

Houston Heat 2023 Bay’s Logan Stark overwhelmed hitters and looked dominant in his start during the Five Tool Texas Houston College Championships. The uncommitted 2023 from Katy Taylor (TX) ran his fastball up to 85 MPH and effectively mixed in off-speed pitches to baffle the opposition. The RHP has loads of room to add strength and velocity to an already impressive frame. Look for Stark to command the hill this upcoming spring in his Junior season. This dude is certainly worth keeping an eye on the next year and a half.

Brady Pavlovsky (MBC 2024)

MBC 2024’s Brady Pavlovsky was un-hittable in his outing on Friday afternoon at the Five Tool Texas DFW College Championships. The uncommitted 2024 from Chaparral (CA) worked quickly and efficiently and hurled a seven inning no-hitter. The RHP was dialed in from the get go and racked up eight strikeouts while missing barrels all afternoon. Pavlovsky burst onto the scene this past weekend and looks to continue building momentum through the back of the summer showcase circuit.

Isaac Thornton (DBI Blacksox Shiner)

DBI Blacksox Shiner’s Isaac Thornton turned in one of the best pitching performances of the summer in the Five Tool Texas Summer Showdown Satellite Series this past weekend. The uncommitted 2022 from Flower Mound Marcus (TX) proved he can be a workhorse ace on the bump and racked up a ridiculous 16 strikeouts in seven innings of work. The RHP came right at hitters early in the count and featured put away stuff all evening long. This dude has come on strong and will be someone college coaches can rely on. Get on this one quick!

Mason Lampe (Batter’s Box Majewski)

Batter’s Box Majewski’s Mason Lampe was dealing in the Five Tool Texas CTX Championships this past weekend. The uncommitted 2022 from Brenham (TX) came out of the gates hot and challenged hitters from the get go. Lampe turned in a seven inning n0-hitter due in part to his ability to pitch to contact and command the corners of the zone. This was a  special performance from the 2022. Look for him to continue to turn in strong outings through the rest of the summer.
