Dudes of the Weekend: Week 6

Hitters

Tristan Thomas (ABA Foster)

Tristan Thomas of ABA Foster had himself a weekend in the Five Tool New Mexico Duke City Championships. The left-handed hitter finished with a 7-16 line that included two doubles, three home runs, eight RBI’s, six runs, three walks, and three stolen bases. The 2023 uncommitted left hander from Carlsbad (NM) showed impressive pull side pop, turning on two balls and sending them way over the right field wall. Thomas keeps his hands high in his load up before slowly bringing them down as the pitch comes in. This dude has natural pop and is a dangerous at bat for pitchers to go through.

Luke Billings  (North Texas Longhorns 2025)

North Texas Longhorns 2025’s Luke Billings showed why he is one of the top commits in the 2025 class this past weekend at the Five Tool Texas DFW College Championships. The Tennessee commit from Prosper (TX) put together an impressive weekend at the dish as he totaled seven hits including a massive grand slam on Saturday afternoon. The RHH is poised in the box and has elite bat to ball skills that allows him to drive the ball to all fields. Billings also has impressive bat speed that is accompanied with big time pop. This dude is an all around stud and is going to be a big time name to keep tabs on over the course of the next couple of years.

Logan Lorenz (Texas Twelve 2025 Black)

Texas Twelve 2025 Black’s Logan Lorenz was a tough out at the plate in the Five Tool Texas Houston College Championships. The uncommitted 2025 from Strake Jesuit (TX) was an extra base hit machine as he clubbed four doubles and belted a home run. The LHH has a strong foundation at the plate and utilizes a short, sweet stroke to shoot the ball to all fields. Lorenz has the make up of a future clean up hitter as he already has an impressive frame that will only get stronger with time. Keep an eye on this dude as he continues to mature, he has the makings of a very nice prospect.

Braylon Payne (Texas Twelve 2024 Maroon)

Texas Twelve 2024 Maroon’s Braylon Payne was locked in at the plate in the Five Tool Texas Houston College Championships. The 2024 Houston commit from Elkins (TX) was an absolute problem on the basepaths and routinely showed off both the hit and speed tools as he ripped three triples., came around to score 10 times, and swiped seven bags in an impressive weekend. The LHH stands tall at the plate and is short and quick to the ball which really allows him to drive the baseball all over the yard. Payne utilizes a swing that is reminiscent of the Milwaukee Brewers’ Christian Yelich and really impressed in all offensive aspects of the game. Remember this name.

Isaiah Castaneda (Texas Twelve 2024 Maroon)

Texas Twelve 2024 Maroon’s Isaiah Castaneda formed a formidable 1-2 punch with fellow Dude of the Weekend, Braylon Payne this last weekend at the Five Tool Texas Houston College Championships. The uncommitted 2024 from Pearland (TX) has put up some impressive performances throughout the summer and strung together some big time games over the week. The RHH was 8-15 at the dish and definitely had a knack for getting on base and driving the ball both to his pull side and the other way. Castaneda really engages his lower half at the plate and has some impressive pop. This dude can really swing it and will be a name worth keeping tabs on over the course of the summer circuit.

Sam Stem (Colorado Rockies Black Scout Team)

Colorado Rockies Black Scout Team’s Sam Stem was a man on a mission in the Five Tool Colorado Wood Bat Rocky Mountain Championships. The 2022 Gonzaga signee from Erie (CO) totaled a ridiculous eight extra base hits over the weekend and delivered at the plate as he tallied 10 RBI. The LHH is a threat to do damage each time he steps up the plate and proved he can drive the ball to the power alleys. This dude will be a fun name to keep an eye on as he joins a Gonzaga team that put together a really impressive 2021 season and made an NCAA regional appearance in Blacksburg, VA.

Event: Five Tool Colorado Wood Bat Rocky Mountain Championships

Stat Line: 9-13, 4 2B, 3 3B, HR, 10 RBI, 5R, SB

Josh Wulfert (NM Stars)

NM Stars’ Josh Wulfert was producing at an impressive rate in New Mexico this weekend. The 2023 uncommitted right handed bat from Piedra Vista (NM) ended the weekend with a 10-17 stat line that included two doubles, two triples, a home run, twelve RBI’s, eight runs scored, two walks, and two stolen bags. Wulfert has super quiet hands at the plate, using his lower body to load up as the pitch is coming in. He brings his front leg back and bends it inside, before unraveling and exploding to the ball with quick hands. This dude also showed impressive speed on the bases and the ability to hit with power to the middle of the field. The stat line he put up is incredible, and it caught eyes this weekend.

Josiah Kemp (B45s OK 2026)

B45s OK 2026’s Josiah Kemp was flashing impressive skills in all aspects of the game this weekend. The 2026 uncommitted righty out of Westmoore (OK) went 9-19 with four doubles, ten runs driven in, four runs scored, a walk, and three stolen bases. He also made a nice diving catch coming in on the ball in center and then doubled off a runner at first while throwing off of his knees. At the plate, Kemp’s short and compact swing was consistently creating hard contact all over the field. This is a dude who put on a show this weekend in his games.

Dylan Cheek (Dallas Tigers TankVil)

Dallas Tigers TankVil’s Dylan Cheek was spraying the ball all over the field this weekend for his club. Cheek ended the weekend with an 8-19 stat line that included five doubles, nine RBI’s, seven runs, and two walks. This 2026 uncommitted righty from Rockwall (TX) showed the ability to drive the ball for extra bases to the right side, while also being able to pull balls for power. Cheek has impressive bat control and can get to the ball anywhere in the zone, which helps him consistently get on base. The way that Cheek was producing extra bases helped his team in a massive way this weekend.

Ryan Matson (Trosky Southwest 2024)

Trosky Southwest 2024’s Ryan Matson ended his weekend with a 10-15 stat line that included five doubles, a triple, two home runs, twelve RBI’s, eleven runs scored, and three stolen bases. Matson was pulling balls with authority all weekend, including his home run to left field. The 2024 uncommitted right hander out of Great Hearts Northern Oaks (TX) was covering all parts of the zone and he loved the low ball. Matson has a strong upper body and natural pop that he utilizes in his swing. This dude has a bat that is scary every time it comes up to the plate, and that was shown this weekend.

Drew Perry (Downtown Baseball 15U)

Drew Perry of Downtown Baseball 15U was another dude that came to play this weekend. Perry ended his weekend with an 8-14 stat line that included a double, a triple, a home run, seven RBI’s, eight runs scored, and two walks. The uncommitted 2024 right hander from Leroy Green Academy (CA) has natural pull power that he was using this weekend. He also showed impressive bat control and adjustments while at the plate, including going the other way with the ball on tough offspeed pitches for base hits. Perry is a stud and the type of advanced hitter that every lineup seeks.

Jackson Norton (Downtown Baseball 15U)

Downtown Baseball 15U’s Jackson Norton proved to be a hitter to watch in his event this weekend. The 2024 uncommitted right handed bat out of Inderkum (CA) was spraying the ball all over the field. He finished with an 8-14 stat line that featured two doubles, a triple, seven RBI’s, five runs, and two walks. Norton keeps his body steady and balanced throughout the swing. He showed the ability to pull the ball with authority, but also fight off touch pitches into right field. This dude was an impressive at bat every time he stepped up to the plate.

Daniel Ontiveros (Texas Twelve 2024 Maroon)

Texas Twelve 2024 Maroon’s Daniel Ontiveros notched two impressive outings throughout the week at the Five Tool Texas Houston College Championships. The uncommitted 2024 from Pearland (TX) sat in the mid 80s with his fastball and really leaned on some effective tunneling of his curveball to rack up swings and misses. The RHP only allowed one hit throughout nine innings and showcased strikeout stuff as he racked up 13 punchouts. Ontiveros utilizes an over-the-top delivery that hides the baseball well. Really an all-around impressive showing from this dude. Get on him!

Kai Bumpas (Texas Cannons 2024 Rumfield)

Everybody loves a good lefty on the mound, which was exactly what Texas Cannons 224 Rumfield’s Kai Bumpas was this weekend. The 2024 uncommitted lefty from Wakeland (TX) threw ten innings of shutout ball while racking up twelve strikeouts and allowing just two hits. Bumpas has a tall and lanky build that he controls very well on the mound. He has a smooth and relaxed delivery that he makes look easy. His breaking ball acts as a sharp curveball and his changeup has an impressive drop. Both of those pitches were successful this weekend, along with his fastball. Bumpas was a dude on the hill and he should only get better from here.

Hayden Driver (Dallas Tigers Ahearne 17U)

Dallas Tigers Ahearne 17U’s Hayden Driver was absolutely dialed in during his outing on Thursday afternoon at the Five Tool Texas DFW College Championships. The uncommitted 2023 from Plano Senior (TX) ran his fastball all the way up to 87 MPH and snapped off some nasty curveballs to keep hitters off balance. The RHP showcased the stuff of an ace as he put his team on his back and limited the opposition to only one hit over a 10 strikeout complete game shutout. Look for this dude to continue the momentum throughout the rest of the summer and into his senior season this spring.

Brian Buchanan (South Texas Sliders 17U Lynch)

South Texas Sliders 17U Lynch’s Brian Buchanan put together a stellar outing on the bump in the Five Tool Texas CTX College Championships. The uncommitted 2023 from Bishop (TX) tossed a one-hit complete game shutout and racked up a ridiculous 12 punchouts in a dominant effort. The RHP sat in the mid 80s with his fastball and featured a nice three-pitch mix including a big curveball that he utilized to put hitters away. Buchanan really impressed in this one and has the potential to be an arm that can help out a college club. Get on this dude now!
