Davis Rivers of 5 Star Performance HTX Gold was able to kick off his week at the Academy Sports + Outdoors Pudge Rodriguez World Classic powered by The Utter Family Auto Group with being the winner of the Home Run Derby.
The experience for the Travis, TX native was a one of a kind experience as it was his first time competing in an event like this. He knew that going out there he really just wanted to go out there and have a good time with it.
“It was a very fun experience because it was my first time in that kind of competition. I told my coach that we were going out there to have fun and put on a show,” Rivers said to Five Tool after the event that took place in Melissa, Texas.
Rivers was able to hold the top spot at the end of the night after competing against 14 other athletes. He was able to do so by hitting 13 home runs.
“It felt good getting 13 but I definitely know I could have gotten more,” Rivers said.
Even though the event was to kick off the week of the tournament and for some fun before the games began, the uncommitted ‘23 walked away with a lesson learned.
“I learned to not let size intimidate me and learned that I can hang with the best of them,” Rivers said.
Rivers as well as the rest of the home run derby participants will compete to be the winner of the 2021 Pudge World Classic.
