24 7 Line Drive Dudes of the Weekend: Week 6

Hitters

Conner Weigman (Texas Twelve Maroon)

Texas Twelve Maroon’s Conner Weigman has had himself one incredible summer as he adds another award to his trophy case. After earning the Offensive MVP at the Pudge Rodriguez World Classic, Weigman took home the Lincoln Hackim MVP this weekend at the AABC Don Mattingly World Series. The uncommitted 2022 from Bridgeland (TX) played up an age class and did not miss a beat. This dude is a rare five tool talent and a can’t miss prospect that has college coaches lined up for a chance to land the superstar’s talents. Weigman is going to be the cornerstone in the lucky school’s 2022 Freshman Class. If you haven’t yet heard the name Conner Weigman he’ll be sure to make you remember it as he churns out unreal performances day in and day out.

Stat Line: 10-23, 5 2B, 3B, 6 RBI, 10R, HBP, BB, 4 SB

Peyton Stovall (5 Star Performance)

5 Star Performance’s Peyton Stovall led his team all the way to the Championship Game of the AABC Don Mattingly World Series as he put up eye-popping numbers out of the lead off spot. The 2021 University of Arkansas commit from Haughton (LA) showcased why some consider him to be one of the top hitters in the nation and took home the Joseph R. Cooper Batting Champion award. The sweet swinging lefty hit a staggering .636 this weekend and drove the ball to all fields. Stovall is a name to know for all SEC baseball fans as he is going to be a fan favorite in Fayetteville. Get use to seeing this one shine under the game’s brightest lights.

Stat Line: 14-22, 2 2B, 2 HR, 9 RBI, 7R, BB, 2 HBP, SB

Simon Larranaga (Marucci Elite Texas Thames)

Marucci Elite Texas Thames’ Simon Larranaga put on a show at the AABC Don Mattingly World Series. The uncommitted 2021 from Barbers Hill (TX) put Marucci Elite on his back as he led the way at the dish with seven extra-base hits this weekend. The RHH is quiet with his load but utilizes a violent lower half to drive the ball to all fields. Larranaga has put up staggering numbers all summer and is going to make a big time collegiate baseball program very happy once he makes his decision.

Ryder Hernandez (Action 17U Jackson)

Action 17U Jackson’s Ryder Hernandez was a key component in their run to the Championship Game of the Five Tool Show 17U Championships this weekend. The 2021 Texas State commit from Cedar Park (TX) put up big time numbers at the plate as he racked up five extra-base hits. Working primarily out of the two hole in the lineup, the RHH showcased his ability to hit for average and power. Hernandez can be a top of the order dude and set the table for the the middle of the order. Keep an eye out for this one in his senior season and further on down the road.

Stat Line: 12-21, 4 2B, HR, 6 RBI, 8R

Trea Verver (Action 17U Jackson)

Action 17U Jackson’s Trea Verver formed a formidable one-two punch with fellow Dude of the Weekend, Ryder Hernandez. The uncommitted 2021 from Cedar Park (TX) was an on base machine as he posted an eye-popping .810 OBP. The RHH keeps it simple at the plate and doesn’t try to do too much. Verver uses a short, compact swing and utilizes the whole field. This one made a big statement this weekend with his high level of play, look out for him in the future.

Event: Five Tool Show 17U Championships

Stat Line: 11-15, 3 2B, 4 RBI, 8R, 6 BB, SB

Antonelli Savattere (DBAT Elite Chancellor)

DBAT Elite Chancellor’s Antonelli Savattere was a force at the plate and put together a memorable weekend at the Five Tool Texas DFW Classic Satellite Series. The uncommitted 2022 from Rowlett (TX) showcased his speed and pure swing as he racked up three triples and was a key factor in DBAT’s success. The LHH has a very smooth swing and looks to do damage each time he comes to the plate, Savattere is a name to watch over the next few summers as he grows into his frame and adds more power to his already refined swing.

Event: Five Tool Texas DFW Classic Satellite Series

Stat Line: 9-14, 2B, 3 3B, 7 RBI, 2R, SB

Casan Evans (Marucci Elite Texas Venable)

Marucci Elite Texas Venable’s Casan Evans impressed at the plate in the 2D/Five Tool Texas Classic. The incoming freshman at St. Pius X (TX) 2024, showcased his ability to put the bat on the ball as he hit a staggering .727 this past weekend. Evans is already ahead of the curve for his age group at the plate and will be an intriguing prospect to watch as he fills into his long, lanky frame. The RHH showed good speed and base running awareness as he picked up four stolen bases. Keep an eye on this one as over the next few summers as he will only continue to get stronger.

Event: 2D/Five Tool Texas Classic

Stat Line: 8-11, 3 2B, 3B, 4 RBI, 7R, 2 BB, 4 SB

Mason Culton (Synergy Baseball)

Synergy Baseball’s Mason Culton helped lead the way during their run to the 15U American Division Championship. The uncommitted 2022 from Bridgeland (TX) showcased some extreme pop at the plate as he blasted three home runs and was a force in the middle of Synergy Baseball’s potent lineup. The LHH showed power to all fields and used a quick, compact swing tot drive the ball to the power alleys. Culton is a part of a loaded 2022 class at Bridgeland and will be a key part of their lineup in the next two years.

Event: Five Tool South Texas Championships

Stat Line: 5-13, 3 HR, 4 RBI, 6R, BB, 3 SB

Pitchers

Luke Harrison (Texas Twelve Maroon)

Texas Twelve Maroon’s Luke Harrison turned out a dominant performance in the Championship Game of the AABC Don Mattingly World Series and took home the Most Valuable Pitcher award. The 2021 University of Texas commit from Lutheran South Academy (TX) featured a mid 80s fastball and put hitters away with a filthy breaking ball that just falls off the table. The LHP is especially deceptive as he works from a three-quarter arm slot and features a number of varying windups that mess with hitter’s timing. Harrison is a very crafty arm that will continue to dominate hitters with his pinpoint control.

Stat Line: 7.0 IP, 5K, 5H, 2R, BB 2 appearances and W in Championship Game

Ty Sexton (Texas Twelve Maroon)

Texas Twelve Maroon’s Ty Sexton was dominant on the mound in his only outing of the weekend. The 2021 Texas A&M commit from Lake Creek (TX) stifled a very good Stix 2021 Davenport lineup with a power fastball and devastating breaking ball that put hitters away. The RHP has a loose arm and runs his fastball up into the low 90s. Once Sexton gets into A&M’s system he will add even more velocity to his fastball and can be a big piece of the Aggies rotation. Look out for for this one as he will be a name to know around the country.

Austin Green (5 Star Performance)

5 Star Performance’s Austin Green put together a fantastic weekend on the mound at the AABC Don Mattingly World Series. The 2020 Weatherford College commit from New Diana (TX) turned out two clutch performances on Friday night as he carried his team into the Championship Game. In the semi final game against GPS Legends Puffer, the RHP kept 5 Star alive long enough for a furious comeback in the final inning. Green runs his fastball up to the low 90s and pitches with emotion. This dude can be a big part of Weatherford’s staff in the spring. Look out for this one.

Travis Klein (USA Prime Cavemen Watkins)

USA Prime Cavemen Watkins’ Travis Klein turned out a stellar performance on Thursday morning in the Five Tool Show 17U Championships. The uncommitted 2021 from Midlothian (TX) mixes speeds well and keeps hitters off balance with a nice breaking ball and spots up his fastball to work ahead in counts. The RHP has good arm action and just finds ways to generate soft contact. Keep an eye on Klein as he heads into his senior season at Midlothian.

Event: Five Tool Show 17U Championships

Kyler Mentzel (AB National Team 17U Matt Fox)

AB National Team 17U Matt Fox’s Kyler Mentzel was dominant on the mound in the 2D/Five Tool Texas Classic. The 2021 Tarleton State commit from Alvin (TX) could not be touched as he racked up 13 strikeouts in a complete game shutout Thursday morning. Mentzel ran his fastball up to 94 and features two breaking balls that made hitters look just plain silly. The RHP is a big time arm in the 2021 class that will be a true ace for Tarleton State and carry Alvin in his senior season this spring. Mentzel has been one of the most impressive arms in the state this summer.

Tanner Brown (North Texas Shockers)

North Texas Shockers’ Tanner Brown was lights out on the mound at the Five Tool South Texas Championships this past weekend. The 2020 Murray State College signee from Keene (TX) 2020 featured a mid to upper 80s fastball and a nasty breaking ball as he racked up strikeouts and stymied opposing hitters. The RHP showed good control of his fastball as he worked the corners of the zone and mixed pitches extremely well. Brown is a great addition to the 2020 class at Murray State College and looks to make noise on the mound this upcoming spring.

Stat Line: 8.0 IP, 16K, 2H, R, 4 BB

Mason Arispe (Canes Southwest Morgan Black)

Canes Southwest Morgan Black’s Mason Arispe put together two spectacular outing on the mound at the Five Tool South Texas Championships. The uncommitted 2023 from London (TX) featured great control of his fastball and kept hitters off balance with a very good breaking ball. The RHP was difficult for hitters to read all weekend and featured strikeout stuff that is uncommon for guys his age. Arispe is an interesting prospect to watch as he develops over the course of the next few years. Keep an eye on this one.
