Hitters

Connor McGinnis (Canes Southwest NTX Cowser)

Canes Southwest NTX Cowser’s Connor McGinnis turned out an electric performance in the Five Tool Texas DFW Showdown this past weekend. The 2021 Grayson commit from Hebron (TX) has a swing nearly as pure as the Dodgers’ Cody Bellinger. The LHH drives the ball to all fields and hits for both power and average. This dude has a chance to do some special things in his senior season at Hebron. Watch out for this one down the road.

Stat Line: 7-15, 4 2B, 2 HR, 9 RBI, 6R, 2 BB

Hayden Lee (Canes Southwest 15U Barras)

Canes Southwest 15U Barras’ Hayden Lee put on quite the show at the Five Tool Texas DFW Showdown. The uncommitted 2023 from Southlake Carroll (TX) showcased raw power that is rare at his age as he racked up four extra-base hits and belted a massive home run on Friday afternoon. The RHH is composed and quiet with his loud, but really gets into his powerful lower half to generate power. There’s a lot to like about this dude and he will be an intriguing prospect to keep an eye on in the coming years.

Stat Line: 9-19, 3 2B, HR, 10 RBI, 8R, BB, 3 SB

Kendall McDowell (Canes Southwest 15U Barras)

Canes Southwest 15U Barras’ Kendall McD0well formed quite the one-two punch with fellow Dude of the Weekend, Hayden Lee at the Five Tool Texas DFW Showdown. The uncommitted 2023 from John Paul II (TX) proved to be a prototypical lead off hitter that can give a team a good amount of pop at the top of the order. The RHH used his speed to his advantage as he stole five bases and scored 10 runs this past weekend. McDowell has a refined and mature approach at the dish that you just don’t see at his age. Look out for this one as he starts to add strength and power in the next few weeks.

Stat Line: 8-12, 3 2B, 6 RBI, 10R, 5 BB, 5 SB

Ryan Beaty (5 Star TX Gold)

5 Star TX Gold’s Ryan Beaty was a hitting machine at the Five Tool Texas DFW Showdown this past weekend. The uncommitted 2023 from Waller (TX) just finds a way to get on base and looked to drive the ball the other way. The RHH gets good extension and doesn’t try to do too much at the plate. Beaty also has a refined approach and has developed patience in the box. This dude burst onto the scene and looks to keep building upon the momentum he gained at the end of the summer in his sophomore season at Waller.

Stat Line: 9-15, 4 2B, 5 RBI, 6R, 2 BB, 3 SB

Xavier Casserilla (Cooperstown Cobras 17U Tredaway)

Cooperstown Cobras 17U Tredaway’s Xavier Casserilla swung a hot bat at the plate in the Five Tool Texas DFW Showdown. The 2021 Wichita State commit from Eaton (TX) belted two home runs this weekend and proved to shoulder the load in the middle of the Cobras order. The RHH looks to drive the ball the other way and utilizes a small leg kick to time up opposing pitchers. Casserilla has an impressive frame that will only continue to get stronger in the coming years. This dude is a can’t miss talent and is going to look to make an instant impact once he arrives at Wichita State. Keep an eye on this one in his senior season and beyond.

Pitchers

Ryan Johnson (Dallas Tigers Polk)

Dallas Tigers Polk’s Ryan Johnson came out and pumped some serious gas at the Five Tool Texas DFW Showdown. The home schooled 2021 Dallas Baptist commit from Red Oak, TX, showcased why many regard him as the premier pitching talent in the 2021 class. The RHP ran his fastball up to 95 MPH and absolutely overwhelmed the opposition with his heater and devastating offspeed pitches. Johnson really gets into his lower half to generate velocity and is a towering presence on the mound. This dude is going to turn heads when he gets to Dallas Baptist following his senior year of high school. Watch out for this one because he has the tools to turn into a superstar.

Stat Line: 7.0 IP, 13K, H, 0R, 0 BB

Trenton Shaw (Dallas Tigers Polk)

Dallas Tigers Polk’s Trenton Shaw was absolutely electric on the mound in the Five Tool Texas DFW Showdown. The uncommitted 2022 from Prestonwood Chrisitan Academy (TX) ran his fastball up to 93 MPH and worked in and around the zone. The LHP really keeps hitters off balance with a massive difference in velocity on his breaking ball. Shaw effectively tunnels a fastball-curveball combination and can rack up swings and misses. This dude is a star in the making and is going to make whichever college he ends up at extremely happy. Get on this one.

Stat Line: 6.0 IP, 16K, H, 0R

Coby DeJesus (East Texas Banditos DeJesus)

East Texas Banditos DeJesus’ Coby DeJesus dealt in his only appearance on the mound at the Five Tool Texas DFW Showdown. The 2022 University of Houston commit from Lufkin (TX) has a unique arm slot and puts hitters away with deception and a wicked slider. The RHP features great command of an elevated pitch mix and works in and around the zone to rack up swings and misses. This dude is an intriguing arm that will continue to develop and add velocity. Make sure to keep an eye on this one over the course of the next two summers.
