24 7 Line Drive Dudes of the Weekend: Week 10

Hitters

Ryan Rusk (USA Prime Houston Cannon)

USA Prime Houston Cannon’s Ryan Rusk put together an  incredible weekend at the plate in the Five Tool Texas Houston Showdown. The uncommitted 2023 from Legacy School of Sports Science (TX) racked up six extra-base hits and was led the USA Prime offense. The RHH has quiet mechanics and has quick bat speed that allows him to catch up to the heater. Rusk is played up an age group and proved to be one of the most impressive players in the 2023 class. This dude is going to be a lot of fun to watch over the next few summers. Get on him now.

Stat Line: 9-14, 5 2B, HR, 7 RBI, 7R, SB

Connor Doucet (USA Prime Houston Cannon)

USA Prime Houston Cannon’s Connor Doucet formed a formidable one-two punch with fellow Dude of the Weekend, Ryan Rusk. The uncommitted 2022 from The Woodlands (TX) proved to be a prototypical top of the order dude that can find a way on base and cause problems for opposing teams on the base paths. The RHH showcased some pull-side pop and was a key in kickstarting USA Prime’s offense all weekend long. Doucet has the makings of a big time lead off hitter that can spray the ball all over the yard. Keep an eye on this one.

Stat Line: 8-10, 2 2B, 6 RBI, 7R, 3 SB

Josh Flores (Next Level 2021)

Next Level 2021’s Josh Flores was locked in at the plate this past weekend at the Five Tool Texas Houston Showdown. The uncommitted 2021 from Westfield (TX) showcased opposite field power and the ability to stay on the ball all the way through the zone. The RHH engages his lower half to generate power and has a refined approach in the box. There’s a lot to like about Flores as he proved that he can drive the baseball to all fields. Whichever college program lands his talents is going to be getting a steal.

Stat Line: 9-12, 3 2B, 7R, BB, 5 SB

Lane Escamilla (Canes Southwest Houston 16U Willis)

Canes Southwest Houston 16U Willis’ Lane Escamilla burst onto the scene at the Five Tool Texas Houston Showdown. The uncommitted 2022 from Bay Area Christian racked up four extra base hits and showcased the ability to hit to all fields. The RHH hit for both power and average and really excelled in big spots at the plate. Escamilla is an intriguing prospect that has room to add more power at the plate. Watch for this dude to build on a great end of the summer as he transitions into his Junior season at Bay Area Christian.

Stat Line: 8-11, 3 2B, HR, 4 RBI, 3R, SB

Clayton Broeder (Chargers 18U)

Chargers 18U’s Clayton Broeder went off this past weekend at the Five Tool Texas Houston Showdown. The 2020 Grayson College signee from Pearland (TX) showed off his big time power at the dish. The RHH belted three home runs and added two more extra-base hits as he led the Chargers to the 17U/18U National Division title. Watch out for Broeder to make some serious noise in the spring at Grayson. This dude shines in big moments and continually delivers in the clutch.

Stat Line: 8-15, 2B, 3B, 3 HR, 5 RBI, 10R, 2 BB, 6 SB

Pitchers

Anthony Venturella (Wheelhouse Baseball 2021/2022)

Wheelhouse Baseball 2021/2022’s Anthony Venturella was dominant in three outings on the bump at the Five Tool Texas Houston Showdown. The uncommitted 2021 from Klein Oak (TX) featured a low 80s fastball and was able to generate swings and misses with great command of his offspeed pitches. The RHP filled up the zone and kept hitters guessing in each of his three appearances. Keep on eye on Venturella as he can continue to add velocity and start to really blow the ball past hitters. Lots to like from this one.

Stat Line: 7.2 IP, 17K, 3H, R, 2 BB

Jonathan Lowe (Academy Select Howard/Lowe)

Academy Select Howard/Lowe’s Jonathan Lowe was lights out on the bump at the Five Tool Texas Houston Showdown. The uncommitted 2022 from Heath (TX) ran his fastball up to 88 MPH and broke off a number of filthy sliders to put hitters away. Lowe really utilizes a strong lower half and features loose arm action. The RHP has big time velocity for his age and is a can’t miss prospect on the mound. As Lowe continues to add strength and velocity there’s no telling what he will be able to accomplish. Watch out for this one.

Stat Line: 4.2 IP, 10K, H, 0R, 4 BB

Cooper Schneider (Stix 2021 South Black)

Stix 2021 South Black’s Cooper Schneider was excellent on the rubber at the Five Tool Texas Houston Showdown. The uncommitted 2022 from Cleburne (TX) tossed a no-hitter on Friday afternoon in a good, old fashioned pitcher’s duel. The RHP utilized a variety of different windups to mess with hitter’s timing. Schneider played up an age level and did not miss a beat. This dude has the potential to become a true ace on the mound and is already climbing up the ranks on the summer showcase circuit. Get on this one.

Stat Line: 7.0 IP, 7K, 0H, 0R, 2 BB

Chris Kean (Diamond Prospects)

Diamond Prospects’ Chris Kean went inning for inning with fellow Dude of the Weekend, Cooper Schneider in a matchup of workhorse aces on Friday afternoon. The 2020 Ranger College signee from Vandegrift (TX) featured a mid 80s fastball and generated weak contact with plus offspeed pitches. The RHP worked down in the zone and kept hitters out in front by tunneling pitches effectively. Kean has great swing and miss stuff that is going to play well at Ranger. Keep tabs on this dude as he will add strength and velocity once he gets into a collegiate strength program.

Caden Ferraro (Texas Assault Showcase Team)

Texas Assault Showcase Team’s Caden Ferraro put together an incredible all around weekend at the Five Tool Texas Houston Showdown. The uncommitted 2023 from Pearland (TX) racked up a whopping 14 strikeouts in his outing Friday night and ran his fastball up to 82 MPH. The LHP already shows above average velocity for his age and has the chance to add even more as he grows and develops. At the plate, Ferraro proved to do it all as he hit for average and power, showed great patience, and was a problem on the base paths. Ferraro is a very intriguing two-way prospect that burst onto the scene and is going to be a lot of fun to watch in the coming years.
