2024 Uncommitted List: Position Players and Two-way Prospects from Texas
11/29/2023

Now that the fall season is in the rear-view mirror, colleges at all levels are assessing their rosters. Players could be on the move out while recruiting priorities continue to shift as programs continue adding to their 2024 classes and plan for the future. Additionally, colleges of all levels continue to host camps because that’s the only way many programs will be able to see high school players in person for months. For colleges still looking to add to their 2024 class, we’ve collected some names of players – many of whom are JUCO-level prospects - who have stood out during the spring and/or summer. We’ll begin with position players and some two-way prospects from Texas before a list of Texas pitchers and then a list of national names from places like Arizona, California and even Utah and Wyoming.

Harrison Wall – INF/RHP – Mount Pleasant

Skilled two-way player impacts winning on the mound, defensively and from the right side in the batter’s box. Good enough to be recruited as a position player, pitcher or both and has been a consistent performer in the summer and for his high school team. Miss last spring and all the summer after undergoing Tommy John surgery but on track to return in the spring. High makeup reviews from coaches and was up to 91 MPH before injury.

Omari Johnson - OF - Cedar Ridge

Intriguing athlete with plus run times and loose, quick swing/hands from the left side; coming off solid junior season and pretty big gap between where he is presently and where his tools/more reps/skill development could take him. In the fall, a live look showed some impressive at-bats and barrel control in tough left-on-left matchups and run times consistently at 4.17-4.19; has the defensive tools to go get it in the outfield.

Grant Anderson - 3B - Vista Ridge

Physical linebacker in the fall translates his strength in the batter’s box and has repeatedly make contact, although the swing is more contact over impact. Defensively, he has a long list of highlight plays at third base where his fearlessness, instincts and reactions shine; will end up being a three-year starter for Vista Ridge. A beloved leader at Vista Ridge, Anderson was recently named his district’s Utility Player of the Year thanks in part to thriving when asked to jump in at quarterback.

Kade Nathman – OF – Vista Ridge

Another dual-sport standout at Vista Ridge who plays both ways, Nathman is among the fastest players in Texas. We’ve timed him at 3.83 seconds on a drag bunt and 4.09 down the line in another at-bat from the right side. Defensively, he can go get it in center field as well or better than anyone in Central Texas and while he has a contact-over-impact hitting approach without much extra-base impact in his profile, he makes contact and is always a threat to turn a single into a double with his speed.

Hudson Hutcheson - C – Frenship

Physical, strong backstop with present strength who stars in the fall as a quarterback with absurdly good numbers. He has a true chance to stick behind the dish thanks to agility, athleticism, arm strength and competitiveness; hits from crouched stance and rotates well, which shows in pull-side pop.

Coleman Ryan – SS/RHP - Tomball

Probably the one player in Texas whose recruitment has left me the most perplexed. At shortstop, the ball gets in and out of his glove quickly and easily, and he has quality feet and instincts. He’s a good athlete who I’ve timed in the 4.0-4.1 range down the line multiple times and his frame still carries some projection. In the summer, he touched 91 MPH off the mound. Clearly raw as a pitcher because of the lack of reps, it was an impressive display of athleticism and arm strength with some feel for spin, too. I suppose playing for loaded high school and summer teams has perhaps led to Ryan flying under the radar, but he’s going to be a quality add for someone.

Major Spence - 1B - Flower Mound Marcus

Each time we saw Spence, he hit over and over and over again from the left side; some natural, bat-to-ball ability with developing power and isn’t your typical first baseman because he moves well enough to profile in the outfield.

James Raecek - C - Plano West

Has routinely hit for two summers in a raw and has impact bat speed from the right side with developing power. Even if he moves off of catcher at the next level, he’s definitely athletic and fast enough to profile somewhere else defensively with a bat that should profile fine.

Ryan Selvaggi - OF/RHP - Houston Lamar

Interesting all-around outfield tools – has flashed as a hitter with power, moves well and has a very strong outfield arm, which shows on the mound, too. There aren’t many seniors this time of the year who run a plus 60-yard dash time and can throw 90 MPH off the mound and 90 MPH from the outfield while also being able to hit mistakes over the left field fence.

Devin Peterson - OF – Georgetown

Top performer for Georgetown flying a bit under the radar; big, strong, and can really run, too, with a quick bat that can create some loud impact. Interesting all-around talent who had a very good, decorated spring in 2023.

Sawyer Haynes - INF - Waco Midway

On-base machine for Midway has skill with the bat and defensively in the middle of the infield. Like most players, some added strength would do wonders to the hitting profile. Coaching staff thinks very highly of him.

Marco Gonzales - SS/2B – Sinton

Skinny right-handed hitter has been a fixture in the Sinton lineup seemingly forever and likely profiles as a second baseman long-term with all-around skill. He doesn’t have the physical projection of other prospects, but does have a track record of being a performer for really good high school and summer teams.

Ayden Pearcy - C/3B – Friendswood

Five Tool GPA standout is key member of one of the best 5A teams in Texas for multiple seasons. Pearcy is a high energy player dubbed “Mr. Red Bull” because of his love of the energy drink and how much he talks on the field. Back-to-back strong performer at the Arizona Fall Classic and is a big-time performer in the weight room. In the batter’s box, leverages short arms/compact and physical frame and is a hard worker behind the dish with skill to play in the infield, too. Most importantly, he’s the type of worker and personality coaches love having in their programs.

Jesse “Stone” Gomez - INF/RHP – Weslaco

Five Tool GPA standout in 2022 made a couple outstanding, instinctive plays at shortstop and was also up to 87 MPH on the mound at the 2022 Arizona Fall Classic with a sharp, biting curveball and is the type of baseball player that can do a bit of everything you ask him to do. As a hitter, he is unafraid to unleash bat speed to hunt impact, although that can come with some elevated whiff rate. His velocity didn’t progress much as a junior, but there’s some quality baseball instincts and skill in his profile that could help a program.

Diego Flores - INF – Johnson

During our live looks, consistently produced in the batter’s box for one of the state’s best 6A teams near the top of the lineup and came through in the clutch; undersized infielder with twitchy actions who showed promising bat-to-ball skill and moved well. Will get overlooked because of the lack of physicality, but he can play somewhere.

Lex Rich - CIF/RHP - Brook Hill Guard

Big, right-handed hitter who is likely going to be a physical masher. At around 6-4, 210 pounds, the heavy barrel already creates some loud impact and we saw him mash a homer off big-time 2025 pitcher Xavier Mitchell. Still growing into big frame and learning how to leverage his physical gifts, but the raw power is real.

Caleb Watkins – OF – Royse City

An impact defender in center field who is among the best at going and getting the ball in the state, Watkins is a take for a college on defense alone. He also ran a 6.60 60-yard dash at a Five Tool Showcase and had a broad jump of 10 feet and 2 inches. From a spread stance, he hits with a simple, repeatable approach and should be able to tap into more strength in the future, especially if he can cut down the length of his swing.

Drew Smith – OF – Rockwall-Heath

A very productive receiver during the fall, Smith is another impressive athlete who could profile in center field defensively. A good runner who tapped into more impact with the bat this summer, Smith is a strong competitor who showed improvements with the bat during the summer. And there is still some growth to tap into.

Saywer Dunagan – INF – Hallsville

Dunagan, a one-time TCU commitment, consistently shows good plate skills and is unafraid to work deep into the count or take a walk. A left-handed hitter who can play all over the infield, Dunagan probably fits best long-term as a second baseman with an on-base profile and a swing better than his summer numbers would indicate.

Charlie Anderson – OF – Trinity Valley School

Once a Wichita State commitment, Anderson opened up his recruitment after the Shockers’ coaching change. He’s played a lot of center field in the bast, but I think he’s going to grow into a bigger, stronger corner outfielder who could tap into some more power. For a long while, Anderson was a well-known summer name because of his hitting ability.

Hawk Bowers – INF/RHP – Guyer

Bowers is a true two-way prospect with arm strength on the mound and a raw operation that offers room for development. However, I think I like him most as a hitter. He played third base at Guyer as a junior and is a projectable athlete with a right-handed swing that has some bat speed and plays well in games. Given how athletic he is, it’s possible Bowers can profile a number of places defensively.

Austin Godwin – 3B – Cy-Fair

An imposing presence that can feast on mistakes and is still growing into his frame, Godwin probably has some of the biggest raw power of any uncommitted prospect in Texas. He’s been a mainstay in a good varsity lineup for years, has strong makeup reports, and keeps the barrel in the zone. He likely profiles best at first base at the next level. Combine the added strength in the future with the present plus bat speed and there is a future middle-of-the-order masher somewhere.

Marshall Maynard – 1B/DH/C – Richland

Maynard is a similar prospect to Godwin but does his damage from the left side. He has a bat-first profile and is probably limited to 1B/DH. However, he consistently was able to get to pull-side pop this fall and hit some majestic bombs, including a mammoth grand slam during the Texas Scouts Association Games. How quickly he’s able to rotate and while controlling his barrel is impressive.

Jaden Corzine – OF – Bowie

Corzine emerged as one of the best outfielders in Central Texas this past fall when he hit near the top of the order for a good Bowie squad. He hits with a simple, repeatable approach from the right side while easily creating rhythm and is a solid athlete with enough speed to help him defensively and offensively.

Austin Phillips – 3B/INF – South Grand Prairie

A longtime Oklahoma commitment before re-opening his recruitment, Phillips has always impressed me with his baseball makeup and competitiveness. He never is fazed, overwhelmed and didn’t lack confidence on the biggest stage when he was an Area Code member in 2022 and showed he could time velocity. Defensively, he plays with easy actions and if he can find his swing again like his junior year with better whiff rates, he could have a huge senior year.

Ronald Woods Jr. – OF – Longview

Woods is a left-handed hitting outfielder who can fly and had a big spring for Longview. With a thin, long frame, Woods should continue to filly out physically and is a good athlete with intriguing all-around tools. He plays with infectious confidence.

Connor Priddy – C/UTIL/RHP – Lago Vista

Priddy was a Five Tool Academic Team standout and has recently been up to 90 MPH on the mound with an improved delivery thanks to added strength. He’s also a switch-hitting catcher with pop times in the 1.9-2.1 range and was also first-team all-district last season as an infielder. He’s skilled, strong, talented and a good student with good makeup.

Collin Dennis – OF/LHP – Atascocita

Dennis packs some punch from the left side with a compact, powerful frame and has a strong outfield arm. He also pitches, but looks like he should be one of the better outfielders in the  Houston area as a senior.

Grant Moore – OF/LHP – Southlake Carroll

He walked 10 times and finished the AABC Don Mattingly World Series with a .500/.727/.833 slash line with an inside-the-park homer and just two strikeouts. Moore did a good job of letting the baseball travel and is adept at controlling the bat with his strong, short arms to smack line drives to all parts of the field with his short, quick swing. Defensively in center field, Moore, who has a compact, strong, physical frame, covers ground well with a natural feel and has a very strong arm. On the mound, he throws some nasty, angry sinkers in the mid-80s.

Luke Nohinek – C/UTIL – Arlington Martin

Leadership intangibles, very good student, been a consistent producer all-around with in-game pop times around 1.97-2.10… there’s a lot to like about Nohinek.
