2020 Pudge Rodriguez World Classic at Melissa

Five Tool Baseball is pleased to announce the 2020 Pudge Rodriguez World Classic at Melissa, Texas which will take place on June 16-21, 2020.

This high-end event will be held in conjunction with the Five Tool Show, June 16-21. In 2019, the Five Tool Show 16U had over 40 scouts from various MLB clubs and colleges in attendance. This year in the inaugural Pudge Rodriguez World Classic, the top 20 16U teams will join two teams from Puerto Rico to compete for a World Championship. The format will be double elimination from the start with the champions from each bracket advancing to the best two out of three Championship Series.

Pudge Rodriguez will be in attendance for this inaugural event. Rodriguez, a former Texas Rangers great, played 21 years in the MLB. He made 10 trips to the All-Star Game with the Rangers before one season with the Florida Marlins where he would help the organization to their first ever World Series. From 2004-2007, the catcher went to four All-Star Games as a member of the Detroit Tigers. He would go on to have short stints with the New York Yankees, Houston Astros, back with the Texas Rangers, and he finished his career with the Washington Nationals.

Ivan “Pudge” Rodriguez, born in Manatí, Puerto Rico, was inducted to the Hall of Fame in 2017. Pudge was also the AL MVP in 1999, a 13-time Gold Glove winner, a seven-time Silver Slugger, and the 2003 NLCS MVP. His No. 7 was retired with the Texas Rangers and he is in the Texas Rangers Hall of Fame as well.

Rodriguez will be in attendance for the Hall of Fame dinner on Monday at the Sheraton in McKinney, TX.
